Nov. 9, 2021 – In a joint announcement, RingCentral and Mitel revealed that they have forged a strategic unified communications-as-a-service (UCaaS) partnership that allows for delivery of RingCentral’s cloud messaging, video, and voice services to Mitel’s sprawling base of on-premises PBX customers, numbered at 35 million, according to the companies. With the arrangement, RingCentral becomes Mitel’s exclusive UCaaS partner via the RingCentral MVP platform; Mitel phone and device support for the platform will follow in the first half of 2022. Additionally, RingCentral has purchased the assets, access, and intellectual property (IP) for CloudLink, Mitel-developed technology designed to allow companies to bridge between their premises and cloud installations, for $650 million. Lastly, in a third prong of the announcement, the companies said private equity firm Searchlight Capital Partners, which acquired Mitel in late 2018, has invested $200 million in RingCentral.
