What's the news?

Microsoft shared its AI vision for employee automation, communication, and collaboration during the annual Microsoft 365 Community conference held April 21-23, 2026, in Orlando, Fla. While this is an independently produced conference, Microsoft is its biggest sponsor and many Microsoft 365 leaders, including EVP Jeff Teper, delivered keynotes and session presentations. For the first time, Microsoft invited a select group of analysts, including Metrigy, to attend its executive experience track and dedicated breakout sessions with Microsoft 365 and Teams leadership.

During the event, Microsoft shared its vision around AI workflow automation, business intelligence, and governance. Microsoft’s four-part AI framework includes:

  • Work IQ – An intelligence layer that personalizes Copilot based on a user’s work, and what it knows about the organization
  • Agentic work – Bringing AI into the flow of work
  • Multi-modal model support (currently those from OpenAI and Anthropic) – Allowing customers to select the best model for a particular use case
  • Agent management platform – Providing the ability to support an ecosystem of agents; includes agent-building tools for everyone and built-in security, management, and governance capabilities

During a Teams-specific keynote, Microsoft leaders shared additional AI initiatives including:

  • Copilot calling delegation – A personal assistant for Teams calling that allows Copilot to take specific actions, such as filtering spam calls, routing calls to a scheduling agent, and capturing call summaries and transcripts
  • A facilitator agent in Teams meetings – Performs a variety of in-meeting tasks, including conversation summarization, support for meeting queries, coaching of participants, and meeting agenda management

Microsoft leaders shared additional initiatives under NDA, all of which are aimed at executing on its vision of using AI to support human engagement and optimize work, while maintaining enterprise-grade security and compliance.
