What's the news?
At its annual SIGNAL user conference on May 6, 2026, Twilio introduced four platform capabilities aimed at resolving fragmented customer interactions and eliminating what it calls "agent amnesia.” With the new capabilities, Twilio aims to ensure context persists across channels and interactions. The foursome comprises:
- Conversation Orchestrator – Merges disconnected communication threads into a continuous journey, managing routing, escalations, state management, and seamless handoffs between human and AI agents
- Conversation Memory – Supplies long-term recall for human and AI agents, capturing and maintaining customer preferences, account history, and real-time conversation states across all touchpoints
- Conversation Intelligence – Uses generative AI language operators to evaluate live interactions and convert them into actionable signals, such as detecting customer stress to instantly trigger a workflow that brings a human agent into an AI-handled interaction
- Agent Connect – An open-source and model-agnostic framework that allows enterprises to plug their preferred third-party AI models and agents directly into Twilio's communication platforms
Additionally, Twilio announced the Twilio Console, a completely redesigned interface that serves as a unified hub for navigating products, managing compliance, and handling billing. All new platform capabilities are now generally available.
Other updates include Deepgram Flux for smart turn detection in voice AI, PCI compliance for Conversation Relay, native voice activity detection, new human-escalation integrations for Twilio Flex, and more.
